Paul’s Journey to Success: From Life Skills to Social Enterprise Employment
Paul’s story is one of dedication, growth, and opportunity. Since 2009, Paul has been part of the Mai-Wel community, embracing a range of tasks and roles that have helped him build his skills and confidence in the workplace.
Paul began his journey by completing a Life Skills HSC at Newcastle Senior School and then started work with Mai-Wel Time Savers, where he performed a variety of tasks such as bookbinding, mailing, screen printing, and food handling. In 2013, Paul transitioned to Mai-Wel Enterprises, taking on additional responsibilities in industrial shredding, grounds maintenance, and facilities cleaning.
Fast forward to August 2024, and Paul has achieved a significant milestone: securing employment with Mai-Wel’s first Social Enterprise for Cleaning & Grounds Maintenance, earning a full award wage. His commitment to continuous learning is evident through his recent completion of a TAFE course in “Introduction to Cleaning Operations,” which further developed his skills for the role.
Paul’s journey has not only enhanced his practical skills but also boosted his confidence and outlook on life. He has adapted to new routines, communication styles, and work environments, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn. His strong work ethic, friendly nature, and dedication to teamwork make him a valued member of our Social Enterprise.
As Paul continues to work towards his goal of open employment, we are proud to support him on this journey, knowing that his future is full of possibilities.
